- 5th day Györ – Tata (approx. 58km)
- We leave Györ through the suburbs with its many big industrial areas and
head farther through the lowlands into the gentle hilly country of Transdanubia.
Via Babolna, where the best and fastest Hungarian riding horses are bred, and
Kocs, our journey continues to Tata. Here we can cycle around the idyllic
'Old Lake' with the moated castle from the 15c. Accommodation also
possible in Tatabánya. .
- 6th day Tata – Esztergom (Train ride + approx. 56 km by bike)
- From Tata to Esztergom the cycling route leads us on the Hungarian side
through several hilly sections and along bad roads with heavier traffic.
That’s why we recommend covering the first 18 km by train, to be organised
on your own (approx. hourly connections, bicycle transport possible, approx.
€ 2,- per person + approx. € 1,– per bicycle, payable on site). From Komárom
(H) we bike across the Danube Bridge into Slovakia to Komárno (SK) and on the
Slovakian side of the Danube to Stúrovo (SK), where we cross the Danube Bridge
once again to the other side and arrive in Esztergom.
- 7th day Esztergom - Budapest (approx. 69km)
- The last cycling day begins with a visit to the basilica of Esztergom, the biggest
and most impressive church of Hungary. We leave the Episcopal city and cycle into
the traditional town of Vinegar, where we can see the ruins of the Renaissance
castle of Matthias Corvine. We change banks and journey along Szentendre Island
until a ferry takes us back to the southern bank to the town of Szentendre. The
atmospheric city of artists in front of the portals to Budapest houses many small
galleries and studios, which lend themselves for a visit. Now we only have a short
part left before we reach Budapest (approx. 15 km), which we can also cover by
train or ship (to be organised on your own, payable on site). In Budapest we have
chosen a beautiful hotel in the city centre, which is easily reachable by bicycle.
We should absolutely pay a visit to Buda Castle, one of the most famous and frequently
visited sights in Budapest.
- 8th day Budapest
- Individual departure or elongation.
